SECTION 06: PREPARATION ROADMAP

Practical Preparation Strategies

Aspirant Tier 01

School Students (8th - 10th)

Start understanding basic accounting concepts, commercial mathematics, and general economics during 11th and 12th. Register provisionally with ICAI after 10th to receive official BoS study modules early.

Aspirant Tier 02

PUC / 12th Pass Students

Dedicate 4 to 5 focused hours daily immediately after PUC/12th board exams. Thoroughly solve ICAI Study Material, Revision Test Papers (RTPs), and Mock Test Papers (MTPs). Writing practice is essential.

Aspirant Tier 03

Graduates & Working Aspirants

Commerce graduates with 55%+ or Non-Commerce graduates with 60%+ can register directly for CA Intermediate, bypassing Foundation. Prioritize learning Accounting Standards and Taxation fundamentals.

Recommended Study Methods:

  • Rely 100% on official ICAI BoS material before touching reference books.
  • Maintain separate handwritten summary registers for formulas, Accounting Standards (AS/Ind AS), and Law provisions.
  • Practice daily written answers under timed conditions; reading solutions passively causes exam panic.
  • Plan your calendar backward from exam date: 3 months first reading, 1 month first revision, 15 days second revision, 1 week final run-through.
Revision & Mock Test Discipline:
  • Attempt at least two full 3-hour mock tests for each paper under real exam conditions.
  • Carefully review ICAI Suggested Answers and Examiner Comments from the last 5 exam attempts.
  • Focus on presentation: working notes in Accounting and section citations in Business Laws carry crucial marks.

Q3.What is the new duration of CA practical training (articleship)?

Under the ICAI New Scheme of Education and Training (effective from 2023), mandatory articleship training has been reduced from 3 years to 2 continuous years, making the qualification pathway faster and more focused.

Q4.What is the difference between CA Foundation and Direct Entry?

CA Foundation is the entrance exam for students entering after 12th/PUC. Direct Entry allows Commerce Graduates with min 55% marks or other Graduates with min 60% marks to skip CA Foundation and directly enroll into CA Intermediate.
